Simi, is celebrating a new chapter in her life with her family. The singer and wife of Adekunle Gold announced that she is expecting their second child, revealing the news in the new music video for Adekunle’s track, My Love Is The Same.
The video, released on Wednesday, is the sixth track from Adekunle Gold’s sixth studio album, Fuji. While the spotlight is often on the music, it is Simi who takes center stage in this announcement. Heavily pregnant in the visuals, she is shown embracing her husband and daughter, Adejare.
Simi and Adekunle Gold first welcomed their daughter, Adejare, in June 2020. That pregnancy itself was publicly celebrated during the COVID-19 lockdown, when Simi shared the news through a dance challenge to her hit song, Duduke, which she had recorded to honor her first child. The track and challenge quickly became iconic, not just as a song but as a symbol of maternal love, and connection.
The My Love Is The Same video opens with a tender moment between Simi, Adekunle, and their daughter, featuring a call-and-response chant of “Omo mi, Baba mi,” which translates to “My daughter, my father.”
Simi, rose to prominence in 2015 through her hit collaborations and solo projects such as Soldier. Adekunle Gold, on the other hand was a former YBNL signee who rose to fame with the hit Sade. He married Simi in a private ceremony in January 2019.
In the final scenes of My Love Is The Same, Simi is shown embracing her family.
